#460 Exclusive Sponsorship Reality Check w/ Ben Swann Powered by Smartcash

By Ben Swann

Summary

This is an updated proposal. After speaking with several members of the SmartHive, I believe that an EXCLUSIVE Reality Check sponsorship makes sense.

We propose that just as SmartCash is helping to create disruption in the financial world, it also helps to create major disruption in the media world by becoming the exclusive sponsor of “Reality Check w/ Ben Swann.” In order to fit into the SmartCash budget, we are proposing an exclusive sponsorship of Reality Check. SmartCash will be branded and tied to what is one of the most successful news segments in the world. Our hope is to establish and sustain a long-term partnership, and we would be honored to be an ambassador of SmartCash.

Reality Check with Ben Swann is a news and information segment that paved the way in covering stories mainstream media misrepresented or simply deceived the public about in the United States and around the world. In 2016, Reality Check with Ben Swann had 110 Million video views on Facebook and outperformed media giants such as VICE News.

From February to May of 2018 Reality Check with Ben Swann was sponsored by DASH Digital Cash and during that time Reality Check segments garnered over 20 Million views. In addition, our brand partnership with DASH has introduced DASH as a brand to millions of new and potential crypto users.

About Ben Swann

I have 20 years of experience in journalism, behind and in front of the camera. I became drawn to covering under-reported issues and events early on in my career, particularly during my time covering the drug war in Mexico when I realized that the war on drugs was being misrepresented and most mainstream media had no interest in upholding their commitment to sharing the truth with the public. I’ve received three Emmy awards and two Edward R. Murrow awards, as well as several AP awards from my time in Texas and New Mexico and Georgia.

I am not new to the cryptocurrency community. I’ve been discussing Bitcoin since 2013, longer and more thoroughly than most journalists in the media, in my own reporting as well as during my appearance at the Texas Bitcoin Conference in 2014. My experience stands in contrast to the majority of mainstream media, which is scrambling to catch up on coverage largely because cryptocurrency has become so accessible and attractive that they can no longer ignore it. However, the majority of media corporations fail to objectively and accurately report on this industry.

Benefit to SmartCash

We have the ability to bring SmartCash to a vastly larger audience than ever before.  From February to March of 2018 we had a similar sponsorship agreement with Dash Digital Cash.  Without question we brought an enormous amount of attention to the Dash DAO with many media organizations and individuals now aware of the concept of a DAO treasury when they had not been in the past.  In addition, we introduced DASH as a brand to millions of freedom and liberty minded individuals. Further, the addition of the Dash Spotlight in the final month of our sponsorship gave our viewers an intimate look at DASH and its benefits not only in terms of a financial option, but also as a way to expanding disruption and freedom throughout the world.

In addition, Reality Check episodes dive into subjects that are embraced and heavily recirculated by an enormous and diverse crowd. This crowd comes from widely varying political, social and geographic backgrounds and they range from individuals who have spent a great deal of their own time on research to individuals who are learning about these subjects for the first time, and the subject of cryptocurrency is no exception. The promotion of SmartCash will fit seamlessly with our reporting: while our audience is diverse, it shares a common passion for disruption in the media as well as a mindset that embraces disruptive technologies like cryptocurrency.

We have the advantage of both a huge audience and existing experience in speaking to the public about cryptocurrency. Using the same footprint that has helped Reality Check and Truth In Media episodes reach hundreds of millions of viewers, we will be able to integrate SmartCash and crypto within our videos as well as bring those topics to live events at a more intimate level with the public.  Our audience is comprised of millions of free thinkers and many people who either have or want to adopt cryptocurrency. Many of those individuals know very little about alternative currencies. Our Sponsor Spotlight provides important brand building information for those viewers.

I have been honored over the past 4 months to act as an ambassador for Dash and to introduce the power of Dash Digital Cash to so many people. I now look forward to moving forward as a brand ambassador for SmartCash and introducing millions of people worldwide to the SmartCash community and economy.

This makes me so worried. Most of the votes are NO but two giant addresses with 1.6 million have voted YES. Due to the size of this proposal, this looks like SmartCash is under an attack know as Elite Capture.

    fl0at1ng_p01nt 07/14/2018 11:11

    Same here

  • mjthestudentactuary 07/11/2018 06:12

Whats also bullshit is that this proposal was originally created on 30 June and was asking for $384 000. It had a lot of NO votes. I thought proposals couldn't be changed once submitted. This whole thing just smells like fraud.

    mjthestudentactuary 07/12/2018 15:00

Found his FB page. Some of his videos are in the 100000s but none of the recent ones are above 600000, so not sure how he is calculating that. Please provide proof if you can. Projections also seem a bit too optimistic and remember they will not be unique views. The 44 videos will have audience members who have seen previous videos. So the stats are still shit. The 2 giant YES votes are still concerning. But I must apologise for the "this smells like fraud comment" I've spoken with the HiveTeam and they said the original was taken down and a new one was submitted. I still think this proposal shouldn't pass but its not as bad as I first thought.

  • mjthestudentactuary 07/11/2018 07:44

Okay, so I did some more digging. The last three Dash videos he did averaged only 1000 views each. So his current average of 600 000 views per video is rubbish. The claim of 30 million views is also rubbish, if the 600 000 is true, which it isnt, you can't simply multiply average views by number of videos because you not factoring in all the people who watch more than one video. With youtube you will have the same people watching the videos, so you can't claim 30 million.

    fl0at1ng_p01nt 07/14/2018 11:10

Yes, I believe that was the same concern for many people at Dash and one of the main reasons for the partnership to end. Ben applied for a second round but the proposal got rejected. I am also pretty sure the amount requested to the Dash treasury was way higher for a very similar deal. So, even though it seems that we are getting a better deal, It makes me wonder on how they (Ben and his team) work out their budgets. Overall, I think Smart Cash can use some exposure but I don´t agree with any of the numbers expressed here.

    mjthestudentactuary 07/19/2018 10:03

Yes I agree with you. SmartCash can benefit from media exposure, this proposal isn't how it should be done. I mean I would vote yes on a proposal from Ben Swann if its for 1 video about SmartCash

  • mjthestudentactuary 07/11/2018 07:48

Seeing that you have the ability to change your proposal, I suggest you make 1 video on SmartCash. Not as a sponsor, but as the topic of the video. Lets see how well it does. If it gets 600000 views then yes lets talk about a big sponsorship deal. I would vote yes on that approach. This just feels like a money grab and I hope the community vote of NO is able to block those two giant votes of yes.

  • PetterEck 07/12/2018 13:52

This is a bad deal. You are asking for way to much and you are not even that big of a youtuber

  • mjthestudentactuary 07/12/2018 15:00

Found his FB page. Some of his videos are in the 100000s but none of the recent ones are above 600000, so not sure how he is calculating that. Please provide proof if you can. • mastin 07/14/2018 07:41

True, it is seen from looking at his videos and the channel (https://www.youtube.com/user/BenSwannRealityCheck/videos), that vast majority of videos (even old ones) have a few thousands of views. There are 104K Youtube followers and half a million Facebook followers. Most of the author's topics are about news speculation and conspiracy theories that are difficult or impossible to prove. Simply speaking - attention manipulation. The big question: will such a huge amount of requested money produce a good enough result? Is it good for SmartCash to be associated with conspiracy theories guru or SmartCash is a real instrument, real technology? Do we see the exact plan on promoting SmartCash apart from logo presence? (the price for just sponsorship is insane) Do you see a single like for this proposal on a pre-proposal topic in forum? (https://forum.smartcash.cc/t/reality-check-w-ben-swann-powered-by-smartcash-updated/4651) No. Can we do at least a promotion independently, not looking at Dash? IMHO, even doing extensive charity work on behalf of SmartCash would bring better results than this overly expensive proposal. Whoever supporting it is stealing from the community budget.

    mjthestudentactuary 07/19/2018 09:31

100% agree with you. SmartHive team loves him and that makes me question how decentralised this coin really is

  • fl0at1ng_p01nt 07/14/2018 11:17

Wow, over Six million Smart in just three entries. Talk about Whales.

    mjthestudentactuary 07/19/2018 09:29

more like elite capture. probably one person with just three addresses

    mjthestudentactuary 07/19/2018 10:06

I mean the odds for two different people to both have an address with the exact same wallet amount of a weird number like 2666238 is just too low for it to be a coincidence. Those top two votes are most likely from the same person.

  • SmartBee 07/15/2018 01:09

I think this proposal is excessive. Why is $23,000 for marketing and $6000 for legal/insurance needed 'MONTHLY'? I'd like to see this go long-term for a year or more with the following changes: 4-6 thoughtful episodes a month of Ben's choosing rather than 2 'pumped' out a week equaling 8-9; 1-2 episodes a month suggested by members to showcase Smart Cash, how it works, how to get involved, how and where to use, any news, etc.; a 10-30 second pre-approved Smart Cash commercial at the beginning and end of every episode; pre-approved Smart Cash graphics and info (for correctness); only one personal appearance by Ben Swann (with photos and full video taken) on behalf of Smart Cash in a 6-month period - not 3 and not by his team. Start out for $25,000 to $30,000 USD per month and build from there. Exclusive crypto sponsor always, perhaps other compatible (freedom?) co-sponsors could be allowed as Ben's 'unique' (not repeat) views and viewership grows. Vote No and have him re-submit with changes? for 6-12 months? Really good advertising idea with changes and consideration for fairness, reasonableness, and equal usefulness and pricing for honorableness, honorability, and longevity.

  • Karl Lohmann 07/16/2018 11:17

How can this be approved? It is way too expensive. Just check Ben's Dash videos view count and the Dash forum (o course, Ben went to Pivx too)... Also I dislike the idea of giving someone that doesn't really care for SmartCash a 4 million vote power.

    mjthestudentactuary 07/19/2018 09:38

Read the first line: "After speaking with several members of the SmartHive." I was sent a few private messages from the SmartHive people telling me this: "I don't normally care for most proposals since they're not that good. yours is decent though. I like the way you've packaged it and your goals. I've sent some yes votes your way few days ago. meant to ask you though - are you the one who commented on Ben Swan's proposal? you've made some baseless accusations there directed at our team, something about editing proposals as in us playing favorites or something(edited) so I'm not sure how well you'd be able to handle promoting us and getting merchants on board since you're so quick to jump the gun and overreact making such baseless statements"

    mjthestudentactuary 07/19/2018 09:40

I have the feeling that the relationship between Ben Swann and the SmartHive team is too close. Why did the SmartHive team come to defend this proposal and not Ben Swann himself?

  • SmartBee 07/19/2018 01:04

Sponsoring some Ben Swann shows to get word out about SmartCash is fair and reasonable. But to fund his attempts for huge expansion....well I'm not really into that. I no longer feel comfortable supporting him, but might agree to $10-20,000 a month USD. http://www.ronpaulforums.com/showthread.php?521141-What-s-up-with-Ben-Swann-lately-(UPDATE-website-amp-social-media-back-up!))&s=a408d35bcc4cd97bf1ffbc4a9b278039

  • Tho Bo 07/19/2018 11:18

Yes, I also think the amount is to large. Rather first do a pilot and see how many views it actually gets and use that as a basis for further planning. But what REGIONS do people actually come from that follow Ben Swann? Should we rather use funding to have TOP AFRICAN and SOUTH AMERICAN BLOGGERS/INFLUENCERS make merchants and users aware and promote smartcash adoption? And as we do have several representatives from these regions maybe they can come up with who to approach to have as influencial smartcash promoters.

  • mjthestudentactuary 07/20/2018 07:35

It is sad but this proposal is going to pass. What we need to make sure is that payments are only made to Ben Swann if he delivers on his objectives. SmartCash is supposed to only pay him after he meets his objectives. If he makes a video and it doesn't reach his stated goal of 600 000 views but he still gets paid, then we need to investigate this further and maybe even call for an audit of the SmartHive. I think its fair that if his own deliverables aren't met that he shouldn't get paid. The first payment must only occur after some of the videos are made and their goals achieved.

    Karl Lohmann 07/22/2018 14:42

Unfortunately, it'll pass. We might be surprised, but I don't think it's a good deal. There's a few whales that voted in favor, but also a lot of casual owners so it does have popular support. I've voiced my concerns about this proposal in the forum (https://forum.smartcash.cc/t/reality-check-w-ben-swann-powered-by-smartcash-updated/4651/9), but without meeting a lot on interest.
