#507 Introducing SmartCash to Newly Admitted Students of the University of Cape Coast (UCC), Ghana

By Alhassan Abdul Basit

Summary

We will introduce SmartCash to the newly admitted students of the 2018/2019 academic year in the University of Cape Coast, Ghana. They are fresh students and do not probably have any idea about cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology. It serves as an opportunity to introduce SmartCash to them as they start their journeys to getting their first degree. We will achieve this through workshops, radio discussions and meet-ups in five different halls of residents within the University. Our main target is newly admitted students because they were not present on campus during previous SmartCash outreach programs. With this project, these fresh students will get exposure and probably invest in SmartCash before getting to know of other alt-coins thereby giving SmartCash the First Mover Advantage.

Description

Who am I?

I am Alhassan Abdul Basit on facebook ((https://web.facebook.com/alhassan.abdulbasit.77) and @Mr. SmartCash on the SmartCash Discord community. I am a graduand in Bachelor of Commerce and a campus ambassador of SmartCash in the University of Cape Coast. I am currently a service personnel at the School of Business in the University. Ever since I had exposure to SmartCash, I have always been a SmartCash advocate because I believe that SmartCash is the future and a real example of a 21st century currency because of its incentivized and decentralized nature. I have worked with some SmartCash advocates in Ghana and I strongly believe that I can play an active role in expanding the SmartCash community base by intensively promoting SmartCash inside the University of Cape Coast and beyond.

What do we want to bring on board?

Our aim is to ensure massive adoption and usability of SmartCash within the University community by organizing conferences/seminars in all five (5) selected halls of residents including radio discussions on campus to educate and practically train fresh University students, hall administrators, hall bursars, merchants, e.t.c. on cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology especially SmartCash. This project will target fresh students at hall levels due to the large size of the University with geographically dispersed students.

This will help trigger the invasion of SmartCash as a generally accepted medium of exchange and also educate students on all the benefits and merits of using SmartCash against other cryptocurrencies. Our main target is newly admitted students because they were not present on campus during previous SmartCash outreach programs.

Do you want to know more about the University of Cape Coast (UCC)?

The University of Cape Coast (https://www.ucc.edu.gh/aboutus/about-ucc) is one of the largest tertiary institutions in Ghana, West Africa, with an incremental annual enrollment status of about 15,650 students. The university, which is five kilometers west of Cape Coast, is on a hill overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. It operates on two campuses: the Southern Campus (Old Site) and the Northern Campus (New Site). The University is very large with geographically dispersed students. Fresh students reside in Halls while continuing students live in hostels within the University community.

The large numbers of students that graduate every year from this University and other Ghanaian Universities create a lot of competition in the job market which leaves a lot of graduates unemployed after their University education. Due to the fear of being unemployed after school, students are now developing insatiable appetite for entrepreneurship while tertiary institutions are now establishing platforms to encourage innovation, creativity as well as job creation after school. Just like any other platforms that incite creative ideas, the SmartHive proposal projects and other investment opportunities on SmartCash provide absolutely excellent opportunities for students to pursue their goals of attaining financial freedom after school. This provides a good reason to introduce SmartCash to these fresh University students as they start their journeys to getting their first degree.

The good news is that most University students have laptops and smart phones and are actively involved in conversations on social media platforms such as WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Also, First year students reside in Halls with wireless internet connection which creates room for all-day internet connectivity. These serve as opportunities to introduce cryptocurrencies especially SmartCash to these fresh students since they have the needed devices and facilities to join the incentivized and decentralized community.

What is our action plan?

All participants of the project will be educated about cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology. They will also be given exclusive education and training on SmartCash, how to set up wallets and ways they can also contribute to the incentivized and decentralized community through proposal writing on the SmartHive. The education and training outline for participants is detailed below:

  • 30 minutes radio discussion on Blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies with much emphasis on SmartCash and why it is preferred to other cryptocurrencies. We will utilize the campus radio (http://www.atlfmonline.com/ ) since it is located inside the University. The radio discussion will have coverage of about 40,000 people with calls in sessions.
  • SmartCash WhatsApp/Facebook groups shall be created for each hall of residence where members in the same hall can share their knowledge on SmartCash.
  • At the seminars/workshops, all participants will be given a general education on the Blockchain technology and crypto currencies. They will be lectured on SmartCash and given practical training on how to set up SmartCash wallets and its features, how to send/receive SmartCash, buying/selling SmartCash on local exchanges and the merits of choosing SmartCash over other Crypto Currencies. Participants will also be educated on why they should invest in SmartCash with respect to SmartRewards and SmartHive projects.
  • Participants will also be guided on how to develop ideas and proposals that can promote the SmartCash agenda.
  • Participants who prove serious and interested in the idea of SmartCash will be chosen as representatives of SmartCash in each of the halls of residence.
  • Hall administrators, bursars, merchants, businesses and hall executives in each hall will also be involved. Bursars will be educated on why they should accept payments in SmartCash.

Are we informed enough to educate others about SmartCash?

It is important to note that whether someone accepts SmartCash or not depends on how the person is introduced to it. If the person gets a good and understandable introduction, they are more likely to accept SmartCash. Apart from the training acquired during the SmartCash outreach programs as ambassadors, we have done our homework and extensive research on cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology especially SmartCash just to get a better understanding of what we are about to market to others.

Also, to ensure effectiveness and success in ‘winning more souls to SmartCash’, we have formed a team made up of students from different cultural, academic and religious backgrounds so as to overcome the problem of groupthink associated with lack of diversity. It is also important to note that we have students from humanities, social sciences and arts that can impact in making this project a success by pooling expertise from marketing, journalism, public relations, event management, human relations and many more.

Timeline for the project:

The education and training will be held in five (5) different halls of residents with a first year student population of about 1050  each. The following are the principal halls of residents in the University and the timeline for each hall:

Hello Smarties, please vote Yes on this proposal to make it a reality. It will definitely prove beneficial since it will increase the SmartCash community base by directly introducing new members. Please help make this possible. Just like me who benefited from outreach programs on campus, other students will have the chance of promoting SmartCash if this project is approved. Thank U for voting Yes.
