#737 SMART on Anypay, the beloved libertarian POS

By DerrickJ

Summary

Anypay.Global is a free point-of-sale app (Android, iOS, web) designed for brick and mortar retail that allows anyone in the world to accept cryptocurrencies. It is popular in New Hampshire, Thailand, Colombia, and Nigeria. Since its inception in 2017, Anypay has steadily grown in the number of users and the amount of transactions facilitated. What makes it stand apart from the rest is its ease of use. Cashiers who know absolutely nothing about cryptocurrency can operate it safely and reliably. Adding SMART to Anypay would mean more places will accept SMART in exchange for real goods and services.

Description

Timeline:

2 weeks

Total hours expected for project to complete:

40-50 hours

Proposal Amount:

~ 750,000 SMART

Deliverables:

  • Users can set a SMART address where SMART payments will be sent

  • Users can generate invoices denominated in any currency that gets correctly calculated into a price in SMART

  • Anypay gracefully handles exceptions of overpayments and underpayments in SMART

  • Anypay presents Green “PAID” screen (in different native languages such as Portuguese) upon successful payment

  • Users see immediate delivery of customer’s payment into owner’s wallet

  • Anypay adds SMART logo and branding added to Anypay website and promotional material, like the World Famous Bitcoin Tour

My current/Past SmartCash related experience:

I met Chris Karabats of SmartCash at the FreeCoast Fest in New Hampshire in the fall of 2018. Anypay was already in heavy use in that area at the time. He saw how well Anypay worked for Dash payments, and we got to talking about integrating SMART on our free Point of Sale app. After some back and forth talks, I recommended holding off on integration until Anypay could deliver the outstanding experience SmartCash users deserve. After honing in the on-boarding, payment monitoring, and forwarding services, we are ready to deliver the same great experience for SMART as we do for DASH and the others.

Possible FAQ’s:

Q) What unique advantages does Anypay bring to the table?

A) Anypay created the World Famous Bitcoin Tour, which gained publicity when journalists from VICE visited from China to take the tour. Other than our intimate relationships with the merchants on our platform, Anypay has three major compelling advantages over other systems. First, openness. Anyone can use it. No complex forms or ID required. Second, ease of use. Your local minimum wage barista who is barely awake and barely sober can easily take payments in any cryptocurrency without any special instructions. We work closely with merchants to hone in on the most effortless and invisible way to collect payments securely and get on with the next customer. Third, we are die-hard libertarians. This is not something many companies boast, but we think it matters. We are dedicated to delivering the best possible product to the market not only because it is our business, but it is our business because we believe in building a freer society by facilitating free trade between individuals.

Q) SMART is already integrated into CoinPayments and has its own POS built in. Why would we want to pay for another one?

A) SMART benefits from use. The more people using it to buy real goods and services, the more value the currency has in the real world. CoinPayments is great for online use, but Anypay shines at retail. Yes, the SmartCash built-in POS might be better, but for whatever reason, merchants are a lot more likely to try Anypay than they are to try a POS specific to a coin they have never heard of. If anything, using Anypay will introduce them to SmartCash and make them a lot more willing to try the SMART POS in the future. Anypay gets SMART’s foot in the door.

Q) $7000 is a lot of money for a simple integration. Why so much?

A) You get a job done right by a team of 2 professional engineers plus 1 heavy-hitting marketer for that price. And after the integration is complete, long-term benefits accrue to you for years. SmartCash gets lifetime support for SMART on Anypay. That means merchants or customers with questions can contact Anypay via phone, email, or chat and get their questions answered and problems resolved quickly. It also means that SMART benefits from future integrations and developments. When future customers pay for something like the ability to do cross-currency payments (spend SMART, receive BTC for example), then SMART benefits from that without any additional cost. Plus we continually are making the experience better, easier, and more fun for merchants and users. We recently added detailed charts that reveal what is really going on in the real-world crypto economy. Finally, we are always expanding to new areas and growing the number of merchants using our platform. That means ongoing exposure for merchants to SMART and more likelihood that they will accept SMART for payment, since many of our users have a Coinomi wallet to store their coins, and adding SMART is just as easy as a few taps.

Who Am I? What do I bring to the table, and what’s my goal here?:

My name is Derrick J Freeman. I produce liberty entertainment and am known for my years on Free Talk Live, Cop Block Radio, Peace News Now, Freedom Feens, and my movie, “Derrick J’s Victimless Crime Spree.” Since 2011 I have been teaching people how to use cryptocurrency to increase their personal independence, and in 2017, my partner Steven and I created Anypay to help businesses in our area take bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies without the intrusive hassles of a BitPay account. Anypay now has 136 active accounts and facilitates retail crypto payments worth tens of thousands of dollars each month. Charts here: https://admin.anypay.global/#/charts More here: https://charts.anypay.global

We are people who love freedom and who are using our bodies, time, and talent to create a world where everyone can use cryptocurrency. Our mission this year is to grow the number of active accounts worldwide from 136 today to 1,000 by the end of 2019. SMART’s goals and Anypay’s are aligned here in that we can only achieve this goal by integrating the coins that people want to use the most — the ones with real community and people focusing on using cryptocurrency as cash in their day to day lives. For this reason, we believe SmartCash and Anypay can benefit each other, and we humbly seek the opportunity to work together with you to grow the SmartHive one business at a time.

Looking forward to a productive discussion on a partnership that grows the reach and utility of SMART!

Are you asking for 7000 usd just for the SmartCash integration into the "Take Crypto" app that has only 100 - 150 downloads on Google Play Market?

    DerrickJ 02/12/2019 17:45

Hey mastin, Thank you for expressing interest in our proposal. To answer your question, this proposal includes integration into the official Anypay apps. That includes the web app, Android app, and iOS app (available later this month). Anypay has over 130 verified merchants with active accounts. That means that not only do they have picture proof of their existence, but also that they have processed a cryptocurrency payment at their retail store in the last 90 days. See picture proof of many of these merchants from around the world here: https://anypayhelp.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360015715094-Merchant-Photos While it would be awesome to have an app that was downloaded by thousands or millions, we are proud to provide a level of intimate service to our merchant network that supports real payments on a regular basis. Other payment processors may boast thousands of installs, but how many crypto payments are happening? Can they even tell you? We can, in real time: https://charts.anypay.global Supporting this proposal means you will not only be able to use SMART to buy goods and services in the real world, but you will also be able to verifiably prove to the the crypto community that SMART is being used for retail commerce. You also get a powerful tool for overcoming objections when asking merchants to accept SMART: they can use this free app to accept multiple cryptocurrencies using their existing hardware. Please vote YES to integrate SMART into Anypay. We are committed to growing crypto adoption in the real world and have a proven track record of delivering on that commitment. https://WorldFamousBitcoinTour.com

anypay.global takes you to a very generic website that has 2 links. One to download an android app called Take Crypto that has 100+ downloads and a web app that is even more generic with a register or login. No details of who this company is or where they are based out of. Can you give any details as to how this money has anything to do with integrating SMART into this app?

    Mancomb_Seepgood 02/08/2019 01:03

There is a FAQ on their main page that does try to answer some questions about the company, but to me if this is to be integrated into the app wouldnt it just be a lump some amount?

    DerrickJ 02/12/2019 19:01

Hey Mancomb_Seepgood, Thank you for your question and interest in our proposal. We could have made this proposal one lump sum amount for integration, but in our experience making proposals to the DASH community, they prefer when we break our ask down into itemized deliverables. For clarity's sake, yes, this is a lump-sum amount that in practice will likely be delivered all at once.

    DerrickJ 02/12/2019 18:57

Hey Mancomb_Seepgood, You are right. Our website could be better. Maybe I can help clarify here what is lacking there. To answer your question, the company is Anypay, Inc. We are a small but feisty team of 3 to 5 highly dedicated engineers who love to spend cryptocurrency. We are based out of Portsmouth, New Hampshire. It is a small New England town with a couple dozen businesses accepting multiple cryptocurrencies, all using Anypay. See more here: https://WorldFamousBitcoinTour.com But we are not just in New Hampshire. We are a popular choice in Thailand, Colombia, Ghana, and Nigeria because of our support for Dash and the many Dash communities there. With Dash, we have received multiple large funding proposals to integrate. I will add more details to our website over the coming days to help provide more context about who we are and why we do what we do, but in short: we are some guys who love freedom and want to spend cryptocurrency everywhere we go. We built this tool for ourselves to use, and decided to expand to markets where there exist other people like us. We think the SMART community is a perfect fit given the focus on freedom and real-world use as digital cash. You asked for details about how this money from the proposal has anything to do with integrating SMART into this app. The answer is that we intend to pay ourselves. We employ top-level professional developers, run multiple redundant servers to ensure uptime and reliability, run multiple nodes to ensure speedy transaction monitoring, and also spend time supporting our users when they have questions or issues. We believe that giving merchants who use Anypay the ability to accept SMART at their retail business provides a far greater value to the SMART community than the cost we ask. We ask for your support by voting YES. If furthering retail adoption of SMART is not a value to you at this time, we ask that you please help us direct our efforts to provide value to you by letting us know what it is that you want the most at this time.

Very suspicious proposal, in my opinion!!! Asking almost 800K Smarts for an app with 100+ downloads only, and a very very generic website? Any little experienced developer can make an app and a website like that in just some days, put some well known coin names listed to show some fake respect, and ask a big amount of money as if it was that important to be listed there. Come on community!!! Lets have some more respect with smart budgets. How can most people be voting YES to this project? Look to the steps of the roadmap! They are asking for fast money, with all budgets to be received in just 15 days, and with very easy steps delivered. Does it really costs $1000 to create a smart address? Like it says in the first step: "Users can set a SMART address where SMART payments will be sent". Does it really costs $2000 to translate some messages in the screen? Like step 5: "Anypay presents Green “PAID” screen (in different native languages such as Portuguese) upon successful payment" I think the community is not looking into the projects to vote. They just go there and vote. I can´t believe any serious investor would give so much credit to these proposal.

    DerrickJ 02/12/2019 19:32

Hey mlsmart, thank you for taking an interest in our proposal. I totally get where you are coming from with regard to breaking down the costs of things like $1000 to set a SMART address. And you are right -- technically, there is no cost. It only requires our labor. The prices listed are amounts that we think are reasonable compensation for the value provided. Since we have received far more money for integrating other coins in the top 20, we consider 7,000 USD a fair ask for integrating a coin currently holding the 192 spot on CoinMarketCap. Yes, our website is generic and should provide more detail about us. I will work on that. Our focus instead has been on building an outstanding product that businesses actually use to accept cryptocurrency payments in day-to-day commerce. Please see https://charts.anypay.global to see why the SMART community would be getting an amazing deal by hitching itself to the Anypay wagon. You are the only other coin we currently have a proposal for, and that is not by accident. We chose you because we believe we have similar values, and our ask is lower than we have ever made for any other coin. Go ahead and try our app if you do not believe it is real, or that SMART would be getting an amazing value by integrating with us. Now that you know all this, please vote YES to this proposal and see SMART adopted by real merchants for real goods and services like the ones here: https://anypayhelp.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360015715094-Merchant-Photos - Derrick J Freeman (please look me up)

  • mastin 02/13/2019 12:19

Hi, Derrick! I see you have no hesitation when asking for random amount of money for the coin integration into your fresh app even though for general programmer it is obvious that the price is too high considering the fact that we have no idea whether or not anyPay will prosper. So you are not afraid to offer expensive integration asking us to take your words about the brighter future for granted. Then let me ask you this. What is your development plan for anyPay if you have no real incentive to promote it? According to your site, "Zero fees are assessed to merchants.". If you do have any kind of business experience, please tell us how are you planning to sustain your service? How are you going to provide hardware maintenance, software updates and support? Currently, in your business model I see the only of income is to sell overpriced integration. One-time price. Are you going to sell the integration forever adding any possible shit coins imaginable? Most importantly, what is you economic incentive to expand your merchant network if you have no fees? Why you didn't just include a tiny fee with your service that would give a real motive to develop merchant network? That is what should be done if you want people to see the integration into your app as a possible investment. Currently, paying for the integration is like a giving 7000 usd to a friend, trusting him that he won't mess up and will work just out of his beliefs no matter what. And finally, what are your advantages (apart from zero fee) against much more serious looking competitors, like, for example https://coingate.com/bitcoin-pos that have a real incentive to expand merchant network?

    DerrickJ 02/14/2019 22:01

Hi, mastin. Thank you for your great questions. You asked what is our development plan and what is our incentive to promote it, if we are not taking fees from each transaction? The answer is that 1) Why should we introduce a fee on a peer-to-peer electronic cash that has the power to eliminate middlemen altogether? Isn't that short-sighted? Surely we cannot continue on that old-world model forever, since people using cryptocurrency will eventually not need to pay any fee, and they will use some other option to get around it. 2) We gain psychological profit from delivering the best crypto experience possible to our users and helping further crypto adoption around the world, which is liberating and a deep-rooted passion of ours. 3) We see value in growing our network of merchants and users. Facebook did not charge its users but grew its network and became a large, successful company. We imagine that if we provide enough value to our users, then profit opportunities will present themselves. A tiny fee would not even be close to providing the incentive required to grow our merchant network and provides a negative user experience. Instead, our incentive is to increase human freedom around the world by empowering people everywhere to use private digital cash -- not to skim pennies from our merchants. For years now we have slowly grown organically spreading from crypto-users around the world who express joy and elation at being able to use their crypto as money in real life. Here is the proof: http://charts.anypay.global and https://twitter.com/anypay_

    mastin 02/15/2019 16:08

Basically, I was right, all you said mean that SmartCash community have to trust your words with this proposal. Nothing more you can show, apart from some photos. As a member of the community I have to be curious and suspicious. 7000 usd is more than enough to come up with much more complicated scam, that' s why you are getting all these questions. And in fact, we've seen many scams already. You said "eliminate middlemen", although your app uses a middleman and shows different from merchants address for payment. Why is that? Facebook don't charge users, although it feeds ads to them (that's how Facebook became a large successful company). Are you going introduce ads in your app, lol? http://charts.anypay.global - these are just charts that can't prove anything, we can't even say whether or not they are real. You prefer not to skim pennies from our merchants, though your have no hesitation to milk big the crypto communities. Now, you just proved that all you are trying to do is to get SmartCash community to invest in your words. You have no business model, no proof that your product is actually widely used, just pure passion. Seriously, how are you going to pay maintenance expenses in the future? You have no iOS app, though your twitter logo implies that it is there. "For years now we have slowly grown organically" - what do you mean by this? You domain anypay.global is a year and a half old. And your twitter account has first meaningful tweet less than a year ago. To conclude all that, I'd say that paying 7000 usd is an insane move, unless the app would become very popular (but when?). If not, this is going to be a waste of money.

    DerrickJ 02/16/2019 03:14

Hey mastin, thank you for taking an interest in Anypay's proposal. You have some great questions. I am happy to answer. Why does the invoice address differ from the merchant's address? To protect privacy of merchants, we follow industry best practices of generating a new address for each invoice. This prevents customers from easily looking up how much money a merchant has received. We think this is a great feature that provides a real advantage over other simpler and more exposed platforms. Adds on the app? No, not likely. That would provide a bad experience. But we may help advertise crypto accepting merchants to people who want to use cryptocurrency. For example, we have a map at https://map.anypay.global that is in beta now. Eventually I could see real value in advertising something like this: "It is Valentine's Day. Would you like to make a reservation for 2 at the fine french restaurant La Maison Navarre? They take Zcash and are right around the corner from you." No iOS app is true -- You may be familiar with the App Store's famously high barrier to entry, especially for "finance" apps. We have been trying for months and expect to release a build to the App Store this month. Fingers crossed. No matter, though -- most of our users are operating our web app on iPads in their retail stores. We offer a clever way to save our web app to the home screen to make it appear like a native app on iOS. What do we mean by "we have grown organically for years?" We started in August 2017, but Anypay existed before that, back in 2015 when it was an app for processing XRP payments. We really found our market fit when bitcoin's fees went sky high and gave rise to the Dash community asking us for a solution like BitPay. We delivered, and have grown organically by word of mouth from users. People who have crypto and want to spend it. They are evangelists motivated by self-interest to install the app at their favorite businesses so that they can use their favorite money. Our app is very popular in places where people use crypto. We have provided photo evidence and charts that speak for themselves. If you doubt their authenticity, I am not sure what else I can provide that will be more convincing to you. Our latest tweet is of us at Anarchapulcho (where the SmartCash community is extremely present) and shows that we were able to work with the bar to accept crypto using Anypay. After that, we offered up an iPad so Verde Vegan, a local Mexican restaurant that accepts SMART, could more easily process crypto payments without relying on the owner's personal cell phone. In fact, he was unable to accept SMART when he was called away to help his wife who was sick, but his cashier was able to continue taking payments in all the other cryptos because he had Anypay. SMART would benefit from being on our platform. Please vote YES to join us as we continue our march toward worldwide crypto adoption.

    ArcherBullseye 02/18/2019 02:25

Thanks for taking the time to reply to all of the questions posted. Do you have a list of the locations that accept anypay? I found the map, but none of the locations have any details besides the pin on the map. (Beta as you mentioned) Are you integrated with any other crypto location maps?

    DerrickJ 02/20/2019 21:11

Hey ArcherBullseye, yes, we have a list of locations that use Anypay here: https://anypayhelp.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360009584814 Our goal is to make it easy for all maps to pull data from us so that they can integrate all merchants automatically whenever one is added, but as the map is still being created, it is not integrated with any others yet.
